The museum opened its doors in 1951, when two of the greatest museums in Lviv decided to unite their efforts and premises: the Municipal Museum of Industry (founded in 1874), and the Museum of the Taras Shevchenko Scientific Society (1895).
The collections include 17 different exhibits, where more than 83,000 museum and heritage items are displayed. The main exhibition hall is located in the premises of the former Galician Savings Bank. Here, you can see cultural, spiritual and everyday objects of Ukrainian life, household tools and instruments, and national folk arts and crafts from the XIX – XX centuries.
The museum also organizes a number of temporary exhibitions.
The exhibition halls are divided into two distinct sections: ethnographic (over 44,000 exhibit pieces), and arts and crafts (over 28,000 exhibit pieces).
Admission: 5 UAH for adults; 2 UAH for children. Excursions: 10 UAH for adults; 6 UAH for schoolchildren and students.
