Free Lviv:
Travel Memo
Lviv is one of the most beautiful cities not only in Ukraine, but also in Europe, and very often there is a perception that in order to enjoy its beauty, tourists have to pay much. In fact, it is not so! We have prepared a review for you, from which you will learn how to get an interesting excursion program in Lviv for free. Immediately, we note that our review does not include free accommodation and food, but you can read descriptions of hotels, hostels, restaurants and cafes on our website, so that you could definitely find something for yourself.
DAY 1
09.00 – We recommend starting our program at the tourist information center. It is located in the city center on 1 Market Square which is immediately behind the Neptune fountain. Here you can get a free city map and a list of current events.
09.20 – Go to the Market Square where there is free Wi-Fi. Log on to visitlviv.net and download the program of free two-hour guided Lviv tours under the section "Independent Tours".
10.00 - Walk along the guided tour route "Lviv in two hours".
12.00 - climb the "High Castle", which is the highest point in Lviv. It should be pointed out that you will not see a medieval castle there. Unfortunately, only small ruins of the Lviv fortification walls remain. However, there is a remarkable observation deck, which will not leave you unimpressed! Nearby you will have the opportunity to climb another mountain. This mountain is legendary Lysa Hora.
14.00 – Lviv "Vernisazh" (French vernissage) is a “must see” souvenir shopping spot for city visitors with a wide selection of gifts for every taste: authentic and contemporary embroidery and embroidered shirts, a wide selection of paintings, jewelry and more. One more souvenir shopping spot is in the Museum of Ethnography (under the "Statue of Liberty"). Although the variety is less diverse compared to "Vernisazh", you can find something special here.
15.00 - You can find a free visit of galleries and antique shops on the Virmens’ka and parallel streets. Virmens’ka Street has the best atmosphere of any street in Lviv. Try to go into all the courtyards on this street. Start with visiting the Virmens’ka street “Dzyga”. Here you will find new exhibitions of contemporary artists from photography and painting to bizarre installations which are exhibited every two weeks. Also you can visit such galleries as “Zelena Kanapa” (Green sofa), “Mystecka ramarnia”, "Pory Roku" (Seasons), "Icon art".  Generally, there is a huge number of galleries. Check the descriptions in “City Galleries” section and select exactly what you're looking for. Most of these galleries are free for visitors. Apart from a considerable number of antique shops there is a museum-pub “Hasova Lampa” dedicated to the invention of kerosene lamp and its inventors.
18.00 – Lviv evening walk. In the warmer months, various open-air concerts are held in Lviv on a weekly basis. This can make for a fun and interesting evening. Salsa master classes, tango, fire shows, performances and installations take place in the Market Place in summer. You definitely will not have time to be bored. Details can be found on the website and at the Tourist Information Centre.
DAY 2
10.00 - Ivan Franko park walk.
Four hundred years ago this place was a city field, but later the land passed into private hands. At the end of the XVI century rich Lviv citizen John Scholz-Wolfovitch spent 1600 gold coins to lay out a park here. He later married his daughter to Antonio Massari, Ambassador of the Republic of Venice in Lviv and the park passed to his son in law. Massari Park was arranged in the Italian style. In 1855 the park again became the property of the city, making it one of the oldest municipal parks in Europe.
11.00 – Go to Bohdan Khmelnytsky park. You will find a lot of concerts and festivals there. There are also rides that are so loved by both children and adults.
12.00 - Stryiskyi Park walk (Parkova Street and Stryiska). The most beautiful and the largest park in the city is a favorite promenade place of Lviv residents. There is a beautiful pond with swans, artificial castle ruins, monument to the first football match in Ukraine, as well as children's railway and other attractions.
The first Ukrainian wide-screen cinema "Lviv" is also found here.  It functions since 1960 with no visible changes since that time and ticket prices are extreme low.
14.00 – Lviv temples excursion.
You will visit the Boim chapel, Latin cathedral, Dominican church, Armenian church, St. Andrew’s church and St. George’s church. You will be fascinated by the grandeur, uniqueness and bas-relief inventiveness of these buildings. The beauty of these urban churches makes them indisputable masterpieces not only in Lviv but also in European architecture as a whole.
16.00 - "Znesinnia” park walk.
Znesinnia Regional Landscape Park is part of the Ukrainian Nature Preservation Fund.
Since it was established in 1991, Znesinnia Park, with the area of 312 hectares, provides a unique opportunity to combine typical recreational functions with tourism, parks protection and the study of natural and historic environment. Rumor has it that the Tetetis Ocean shore was in the hills of the park. Although about 25 million years have passed since that time, limestone with shells from the bottom of the ancient ocean can still be found on Znesinnia park territory.
18.00 - Independent excursion in the old city. You'll see the old heart of the city – the Old Market – and Renaissance cathedrals. This independent excursion can be downloaded from this link.
20.00 – Live music evening. On weekends Lviv taverns (called knaipy) often organize live music evenings with concerts featuring different bands. In addition, an ordinary evening city stroll will not leave you unimpressed. Believe it or not, even Lviv residents find something new during their evening walk, be it a unique Lviv courtyard or street.
