Lviv is a city with a long football traditions

USSR cup 1969 winners 
116 years ago, teams from Lviv and Krakow took part in the the first football match in the history of Ukraine and Poland.
 
In 1969, the Lviv Football Club “Karpaty” (The Carpathians) became the only team in the First League to win the Championship Cup of the USSR (pictured).
 
Today, there are two professional football teams in Lviv: “Karpaty” FC and “Lviv” FC. There are also four professional indoor football teams. Two of them, “Taym” (Time) and “Enerhiya” (Energy) are unchanged leaders of the Ukrainian Championship League. The Ukrainian National Indoor Football team is one of the strongest teams in Europe; it continues to occupy top prize-winning positions among European champions. Sixty percent of the National team is composed of players from Lviv football teams.

There are two schools in Lviv specializing in football. Seventy-seven teams of different age categories take part in the regional Youth and Children’s Football League. 163 young teams and 541 adult teams participate in inter-regional championships.

Lviv fans are the best

Lviv football fans are considered to be the most passionate and fervent in the whole country. According to sociological surveys, every third Lviver is a football fan. The Ukrainian National Football team has won every game that it played in Lviv.
