Several remarkable events took place in Lviv on that date attended by Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine on EURO 2012 Borys Kolesnikov, Lviv Governor Vasyl Horbal, Lviv Region Council Myroslav Senyk, Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyy, Tournament Director and Head of Local Organisational Committee EURO 2012 Ukraine Markiyan Lubkivskyy.
The first in all host cities UEFA EURO 2012™ tram was launched. The tram will serve the routes №1 and №9, connecting a railway station and the city centre. Thus, the city inhabitants and guests will have a chance to see the UEFA EURO 2012™ tram and take a ride. The design was developed by UEFA design group, the decoration is done in the Tournament colours and the frame is covered with the Championship symbols.
Political and sporting dignitaries took the UEFA EURO 2012тм tram from Rynok square to Svobody Avenue, where like in other Ukrainian host cities an UEFA EURO 2012™ flowerbed was unveiled. The flowerbed is shaped into UEFA EURO 2012™ logo – a football and two flowers symbolising Ukraine and Poland. The total area is 35 sq. m. and ball diameter is 3 m. The ball, petals and a twig are planted with flowers of begonia, solenostemon, snapdragons. Red and white petals are made of pinks, whilst yellow and blue petals are of solenostemon and lobelia.
After the special flowerbed unveiling, Lviv has also launched its own UEFA EURO 2012™ tournament logo. The official Lviv Host City emblem incorporates five of its most prominent buildings.
The logo also has a symbolic meaning: Ratusha with other towers and chapels shows a very rich architectural heritage of Lviv, the diversity of nations and cultures that have existed in Lviv since the city was founded.

It was the airport in Lviv, of all things, that first charmed me. Regional airports across the former Soviet Union tend to be a dreary lot, with all the appeal of a 24-hour bus station. But the one in Lviv, the largest city in western Ukraine, had wood paneling and ornate columns and the feel of a grand old railway station in a 1950s film.
