Folk groups and amateurs acting out Verteps (Nativity plays) performed for people visiting the festival. Every evening, three different musical groups appeared on stage: Perkalaba, Burdon, and Fayno.
There were also many stands selling various doughnuts: big, small, with chocolate, stuffed with blackberries, etc, And, they were all delicious, of course. So delicious that both the Mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovy, and Viktor Yushchenko, the President of Ukraine visited the festival.

It was the airport in Lviv, of all things, that first charmed me. Regional airports across the former Soviet Union tend to be a dreary lot, with all the appeal of a 24-hour bus station. But the one in Lviv, the largest city in western Ukraine, had wood paneling and ornate columns and the feel of a grand old railway station in a 1950s film.
