Do you think it is possible to combine jewelry with architectural structures? If it’s hard for you to imagine, then definitely visit Olena Vasylevich’s exhibition “The City of Rings”, the opening of which will take place in Lviv on May 28, 2024!
More about Olena Vasylevich’s exhibition “The City of Rings”
Olena Vasylevich is a Ukrainian artist who specializes in creating ceramics. The City of the Rings exhibition will be her sixth solo exhibition. The concept of the exposition is quite interesting: she created a collection of unique ceramic rings, each of which symbolizes the reconstruction and revival of Ukrainian cities after the Victory.
The exhibition was the result of the transformation of the artist’s idea, which was born about a year ago. At first, Olena Vasylevich planned to depict the destruction and losses that war brings. However, over time, the artist decided to change the vector of her work and create bright and life-affirming exhibits that symbolize new life.
Each ring in the “The City of Rings” collection has a monumental architectural form and is dedicated to a separate Ukrainian city. The names of the cities with which they are marked carry associations with the people who come from these cities, because, according to the author, the cities are their people.
It is noteworthy that after the start of the full-scale invasion, Olena changed her Russian surname to a Ukrainian one. Now she is not Khomyakova, but Vasylevich (this is the surname of Mytskini’s maternal grandfather). This is how she explained her decision:
“My jewelry is like children to me, and I would not want them to bear a Russian surname.”
It is also worth adding that if you like a ring symbol of Ukrainian cities, you can buy it at the exhibition.
