“Christmas in the Grove” Celebration to Take Place in Lviv
Christmas is just around the corner, and you don’t know how to spend the holiday? Then you will be interested in the Christmas celebration “Christmas in the Grove”! It will take place on December 25th.
What is “Christmas in the Grove”?
“Christmas in the Grove” is an annual Christmas celebration held by the Lviv Museum of Folk Architecture and Life named after Clement Sheptytsky. Notably, the museum has another name – Shevchenko Grove. As we can see, the etymology of the event’s name “Christmas in the Grove” is now clear.
The main feature of the museum is its complex structure. Its territory occupies 36 hectares and is conditionally divided into six ethnographic zones. Each zone is a mini-village consisting of 15-20 monuments of folk architecture. The residential and utility buildings display exhibits of household items, agricultural tools, vehicles and various artisan tools. The six mini-villages are named by region: “Boykivshchyna”, “Lemkivshchyna”, “Hutsulshchyna”, “Bukovyna”, “Podillia” and “Lvivshchyna”. The last three zones are rarely visited by tourists due to their low informativeness.
Of the over 120 architectural monuments from the western regions of Ukraine, 6 are wooden churches. The oldest exhibit is a peasant house from 1749. There is also a forge, a school, a sawmill, a wool mill, a water mill, and a windmill.
“Christmas in the Grove” event program
2023 is the first year when the celebration takes place on December 25th. You will be able to feel the atmosphere of a real authentic Christmas. Here is a short program if you decide to visit:
- 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM – Caroling with verteps
- 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM – Warm gatherings over Christmas carols in the oil mill from the village of Holovetske: we will talk about Christmas holidays in Galicia, learn about the peculiarities of their celebration and sing songs from the museum’s “Winter Songbook”.
- 4:15 PM – 5:45 PM – Krajka, HraiBery (jam session)
- 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM – Koralli
In addition, all attendees will be able to enjoy festive treats.

Entrance: Ticket price is 150 UAH for a full ticket and 100 UAH for a discounted ticket (they can be purchased at the museum box office or online on the day of the event)
